Revamping this blog...

I'm going to be be changing things around here, including content focus. I can't just be a 90s blog, and I'm terrible updating it as it is. So in hopes of actually getting this blog back up on its feet, I'm going to change things. Of course since I am still a 90s fan, I'll continue writing about 90s stuff, but now I'll be writing about other interests (contemporary Kpop, variety shows).

And I really should make that post about that Enjoy Saturday Super Concert, especially since they went to several cities and I'm pretty sure they wrapped everything up already...

Super Concert Post Update

I'm still working on gathering up all the info I can about the 토요일을 즐겨라 Super Concert (formerly the ToToGa Super Concert) that was held on the 25th.

An actual post will be published either Sunday night or maybe some time on Monday (if I am my usual lazy self).

90s Saturday Night Fever Part 2

The second episode of Concert 7080's 90s Saturday Night Fever special aired on Saturday night over in Korea.

Park Mikyeong went first with "이유같지않은이유 (Unreasonable Reason)," and Clon's Kang Wonrae was back for "이브의 경고 (Eve's Warning)."

She finished with "넌그렇게살지마 (Don't live like that)." All around she gave a good performance.

Goofy was second up, performing "비련 (Sad Love Story)" and "많이 많이 (Much More)." I don't know why but I could never really get into Goofy... makes no sense even to myself.

My babies Koyote were next, and they were of course amazing~

All three looked super cute too.

I had no idea but before the episode even aired I literally guessed their setlist right, WTF. They bestowed upon us performances of "만남 (Meeting)," "비몽 (Sad Dream)," and of course "순정 (Soon Jung.)"

Jongmin you are killing me, dude.

Wax was on next, singing "머니 (Money)" and "오빠 (Oppa)."

Then fucking Zam came out of no where with "난 멈추지 않는다 (Never Stop)," OMFG.

For some reason Daehyun was also back for the interview portion. I'm not complaining though.

Then Fiestar covered Fin.K.L's "Now," and they were pretty alright.

Kim Wonjoon then came out and did "너 없는 동안 (While You Are Not Here)" and "Show."

DJ DOC brought things to a close and were oh so good, as expected.

They performed "Run to You," "나 이런 사람이야 (I'm a Guy Like This)," and "DOC와 춤을 (Dance with DOC)."

This episode had a better atmosphere to it, and it was much much more enjoyable that the last one that's for sure...

Also that ToToGa Super Concert is supposed to be this week so I'll cover that when it all goes down.

So a Jinusean comeback actually happened

And it was pretty alright~

But in particular I'm just going to mention that my girl Kim Hyunjung looked very nice.

Shoo was also there.

Also just saying but Jinu is still hot AF.

The song is pretty good though, and I've listened to it a bunch of times already, so I think that says something, especially since I have been terribly disappointed in what's been coming out this year.

90s Saturday Night Fever

So that Concert 7080 90s special, 90s Saturday Night Fever, aired on Saturday night.

It was pretty enjoyable~

Chuli and Miae were first up with the ultimate 90s jam, "너는 왜 (Why You)." But then Miae just danced to Missy Elliot's "Work It" and Salt-N-Pepper's "Push It."

Next Young Turks Club "정 (Affection)," "타인 (Others)," and "못난이 컴플렉스 (Ugly Complex)."

Then Ha.E.Di came out with "진이 (Genie)."

R.ef performed next, though it was only Sung Daehyun and Lee Sungwook, but they did "고요속의 외침 (Scream in Silence),""상심 (Heartbreak)," and "이별공식 (Farewell Formula)."

Daehyun looked pretty good though ayy~

Then some nugus were there and covered Solid's "천생연분 (Red String)."

But then Cho PD was next with "친구여 (My Friend)" and then "Candy" (his new song that featured Bada but Bada was not here tonight so whatever SMH).

Awww yeah then we got some Clon~! They did "초련 (First Love)," a bit of "월드컵 송," and "쿵따리 샤바라 (Kung Ddari Sha Bah Rah)."

Jo Sungmo was also here and was the only one on this special who also performed on ToToGa. Just like on ToToGa, he sang "To Heaven" and "다짐 (I Swear)," but this time he also did "후회 (Regret)."

It may not have been as fun as ToToGa, but nonetheless, it was still a nice program.

Next weekend is the second episode and Koyote is going to be there so I'll probably flip my shit over it and will perhaps have more interesting things to say...

So is KBS trying to rip off ToToGa?

To be honest, I wouldn't even care if they did, since I am here for any 90s program I can get, but it seems like KBS is doing two back-to-back 90s specials on Concert 7080.

Under the title 90s Saturday Night Fever, the first episode is apparently airing this Saturday night and the second one will be airing the following weekend on the 18th.

I planned on writing about this like a week ago, but as usual I never got around to it, and I also have not seen any articles about this in English so I have to rely on my ridiculously poor translating skills to figure out what the heck is going on. 

The first part should feature Jo Sungmo, Clon, R.ef, Chuli and Miae, Young Turks Club, Ha.E.D, and Cho PD, while the second part will have KOYOTE (!!!), Roo'ra, DJ DOC, Goofy, Wax, Park Mikyeong, and Kim Wonjoon.

Thank god that the 90s retro trend still is not dead...

Bbaek Ga finally went solo

I should have mentioned this like last week, but of course I am horrible at updating this blog for whatever reason so I am writing about it now...

Shin Ji and Jongmin already have solo works, so it was pretty cool that we finally got a taste of some solo Bbaek Ga (though Navi featured on his new song).

I don't have much to say, however... It's not that bad, but it's not radically different from some of the stuff Koyote has been putting out recently (it has a similar flavor as "Stop Love" that Koyote released like last month). This solo effort was very safe, and I feel like it could be easily ignored (I hope people don't though, obviously).

Bbaek Ga is a pretty artsy dude so I was hoping he would come out with something high concept and more "experimental.". He could definitely pull it off. Like last month, he posted a photo of Vincent Gallo on his Instagram and called him his muse, and I've been thinking about that a lot, to be honest. That's kinda weird. For real though, I hope that in the future we may see something more interesting from him...

Always love me some Bbaek Ga...

The Shinhwa comeback happened...

On February 26th, after what felt like an eternity, Shinhwa made their comeback. Why did I wait so long to write about this? Was it to let the fact that my boys are back fully sink into my brain? To see how the album held up after a couple weeks? Because I was too lazy to sit and write down my thoughts? IDK, man, but anyway, let's now talk about the Shincomeback...

Even in turtlenecks...

When they dropped the MV teaser for "Sniper" a few days before it was actually released, things got serious. The teaser was very promising. And the MV definitely delivered.

The "Sniper" MV is probably Shinhwa's most polished and stylish music video. It looks so fucking good and is much more artsy than usual. As Shinhwa is a group of mature men, they pulled off a very mature music video. I'll even say this- it's, for sure, their best MV yet.

And I'll say it here, just as I did on Twitter and Tumblr, I want Andy to beat me to death with that goddamn cane.

The song, however, was not as immediately catchy as "This Love," but after listening to it for the last couple of weeks, it definitely grew on me. It's a certified jam~ The whistling really gets to you and is super memorable. It will haunt your dreams.

After all this time, however, I'm still unsure about the WE album as a whole. On the first listen, I felt like I liked it more than their last album The Classic, but to be honest, I don't think it's as good. And what I do know for certain is that it isn't even half as good as The Return.

Apart from "Sniper," there were some good tunes on the album. "Never Give Up" is definitely my favorite song out of the 10, and "Ice Moon" follows closely as my second fave. "Cat" is good solely for the line about bringing Eric some Coca Cola and a large pizza. Unfortunately, I feel a good chunk of the album is less than memorable.

Next, let's talk about performances...

Shinhwa came back on M! Countdown with "Alright" (which is just that, an alright song, TBH) and of course "Sniper."

The "Wild Eyes" chair-centric dance is probably one of Shinhwa's most known choreographies, and over a decade later, Shinhwa returned with a new performance that involves chairs~ It's not bad. They looked good doing it, and it matched their mature concept. But it does not reach the level of radness that is "Wild Eyes."

"Sniper" has a very cool dance to go along with it. It's nothing terribly complex or seemingly difficult looking, but it's not dull and Shinhwa does not come off as a bunch of old dudes who can't dance anymore. In every performance, they looked pretty hot. "Sniper" is just a really hot concept. Everything was really hot about this comeback.

Lastly, and most importantly, let's just talk about my ultimate fave Andy.

Hot damn.

Andy looked super fine this comeback... Of course he would, though- he always looks amazing. But as usual, there has not been enough Andy. There is never enough Andy. Shinhwa will never provide me with enough Andy to truly satiate me. However, I will keep coming back hoping for more DyDy.

And to sum up everything, I'm just super happy to have my Andy back in my life.

OMG: ToToGa Super Concert

Well, ToToGa fever still is not showing any signs of dying down any time soon. Last night, I was surprised to find out that at the end of April (April 25th) ToToGa Super Concert is going to happen!

A press conference was held on the 19th over in Korea for it, and now I am pumped.

Several of the artists who preformed on the Infinity Challenge special will be back for the concert. Kim Gunmo, Lee Junghyun, Kim Hyunjung, So Chanwhee, Jo Sungmo, Jinusean, Turbo, and Cool are all returning.

Hyunjung looked really good so I'm leaving this here.

In total 21 acts are scheduled to appear at the event. So who else is going to be there?

It's kind of awkward to mention it now, given what I had to say in my previous post, but guess who's going to perform? Yeah, my fave trio, Koyote~ I'm on a serious Koyote kick this year, so I won't lie, I am mainly paying attention to this for Koyote, lol.

But anyway...

On top of Koyote, we get even more sweet 90s peeps- Clon, DJ DOC, R.ef, and Roo'ra. Literally these are all like the best groups out of the 90s.

You can never have enough Clon in your life.

Also appearing are Goofy, Young Turks Club, Cho PD, Wax, Park Mikyeong, Kim Wonjoon, Chae Jungan, and flipping Chuli and Miae!

Why can't I be in Korea for this?

Just some thoughts...

People are still going on about ToToGa.

As a turd nugget 90s fan I guess it's cool, but eh, it's getting old, LBR.

When Shinhwa came back, they got asked about it, like if they wanted to perform on it or whatever. And they were like we are still active and we don't want to live in the past or something like that.

Bbaek Ga was on Taxi not that long ago and got asked about Koyote not being on ToToGa. When it heard that I was like "WTF" because as with Shinhwa, Koyote is still an active group. Bbaek Ga explained how they couldn't because Jongmin is on Star King on Saturday nights on a different channel and it would have conflicted with that.

But as I said, Shinhwa and Koyote are active groups. They're still fresh and relevant. It's not like we haven't seen them perform in forever, and it's not like we will not see either group perform within like the new year (Shinhwa literally just came back). ToToGa was more about the 90s and artists you really haven't thought about since the 90s or whose careers were more prominent in the 90s.

It's getting tiring having members from even relevant groups (i.e. H.O.T and Sechskies) field questions about ToToGa and reuniting. Of course no one can give a precise yes or no answer. So everyone needs to stop. When people go on about reunions incessantly, it feels like they get pushed back more and more.

I saw an interview with Suwon in which he said that if there was another ToToGa-esque program he hoped Sechskies could do it. Maybe it could happen. Sunghoon is getting back out there, but who knows if Jaejin would want to do it or if Jiyong will ever be down. Jiyong left entertainment so I think it would be fine if they reunited as five. I mean you can't force him to do something that he doesn't want to do. It would be awkward if he was still a celebrity and just refused to do it, but he's not a celebrity anymore. So I would have no issue with just like Fünfkies (lol, I actually looked up what five is in German).

And another thing, I don't get why g.o.d gets called a 90s group. They really aren't. I don't get why they are lumped in with other 90s boybands, to be honest; they are part of the first generation of idols, but they're more a product of the new millennium. It's just something that irks me that I felt like mentioning, lol.

Perhaps I might finally finish that g.o.d post (that is like three months late) this week...
